Road trip from Perth to Dunsborough

Castle Bay

Castle Bay is framed by the striking formations of Sail Rock to the west and Castle Rock to the east, making it a very picturesque spot for a beach picnic on the white sand and a refreshing swim in the clear turquoise waters.

The bay is an easy six-minute drive, or a pleasant 50-minute coastal walk north from Dunsborough – a popular holiday escape within three hours’ drive from Perth.

If you’re visiting neighbouring Meelup Beach, Castle Bay is just a 500 metre stroll along the coastal track, passing a string of tiny beaches framed by granite rocks.

This stunning coastal landscape is also a great subject for keen photographers. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to capture the rocks changing colours from vibrant orange to rust red and cool purples.

Meelup Beach

This picturesque beach is one not to miss! Beautiful white sand, clear turquoise water and shady grassed areas. Meelup Beach is the perfect spot for a family beach day, ideal for picnics and swimming in its calm waters. Grab your snorkel and explore the crystal clear waters.

Bunker Bay Beach

Bunker Bay in Western Australia is famous for its stunning contrast of clear turquoise water, white sand, and the unique, windswept coastal trees (often Peppi trees or other hardy natives) growing right to the water’s edge and framing the rocky coastline, creating iconic photo opportunities and sheltered spots for picnicking, with the backdrop of Cape Naturaliste’s forested terrain.

The placement and shape of these trees are due to centuries of prevailing winds, making them a signature feature of the bay’s natural beauty.

Sheltered and pristine, Bunker Bay entices with pure white sand and gently lapping waves perfect for swimming, snorkelling and fishing.

Located within the famous Margaret River Wine Region, the bay is protected by the rocky outcrops of Cape Naturaliste and is one of the few north-facing beaches in Western Australia.

It is ideal for families wanting a relaxing day at the beach, as well as divers and snorkelers who enjoy amazing marine life just offshore.
