Indonesia-West Jawa-Cirebon

Cirebon is a port city on the northern coast of Java.

It is the only coastal city of West Java, located about 40 km west of the provincial border with Central Java, approximately 297 km (185 mi) east of Jakarta.

As one tourist destination, Cirebon City offers many charms ranging from a historical tour of the royal glory of Islam,  to the west of the city center, reat Mosque of Cirebon, temple, ancient buildings and relics of Netherlands.

Kasepuhan Palace

I visited Cirebon as a part of trips to Majalengka. We can reach here from other major cities in Jawa by train.

SUNYARAGI CAVE PARK

The Sunyaragi cave is a cultural site in Cirebon sprawling over fifteen hectares.

The cave has artificial waterfalls, along with beautiful gardens where one can see statues of the Garuda, Virgin Sunti Women and majestic elephants.

Taman Sari Gua Sunyaragi used to be a water palace for the Sultans of Cirebon. This part of the Javanese island was formerly enveloped by a lot of lakes (in ancient times Lake Jati used to flow in this area), ponds, swimming pools and magnificent waterfalls.

“Sunyaragi” in the Javanese language literally means “in a silent form”. This place used to be a place of spiritual escape where the Sultans would come to meditate in the serene surroundings.

KASEPUHAN PALACE

The Kasepuhan Palace is the oldest kraton (sultan’s palace) in Cirebon.

It was built in 1447 and its architecture and interior are a blend of Sundanese, Javanese, Islamic, Chinese, and Dutch styles.

While the sultan still lives in the palace, several main sections are open to the public. Inside is a pavilion with white-washed walls dotted with blue-and-white Delft tiles, a marble floor, and a ceiling hung with French chandeliers.

The legacy of Majapahit is preserved in its small pendopo on soft carved brick bases.

KANOMAN PALACE

Kanoman Market
Kanoman Market

Kraton Kanoman is a palace in the Indonesian city of Cirebon in West Java.

It was founded by Sultan Anom I in 1677.

In the outer area of the palace, the siti inggil, are masonry versions of the classic Javanese pendopo form, as opposed to the more conventional timber structures.

Like the Great Mosque in Demak, Chinese ceramics are embedded into the plastered walls. The squat split-gates with pyramidal peaks are a Cirebon emblem.

KACIREBONAN PALACE

The Kraton Kacirebonan is the oldest Kraton (sultan’s palace) in l Cirebon. It has existed since 1807. This colonial building has housed many historical relics such as Keris, Wayang puppets, war equipment, Gamelan instruments, and others.

Kacirebonan is in the area of the District Pulasaren Pekalipan village, exactly 1 kilometer southwest of Kasepuhan Palace and approximately 500 meters south of Keraton Kanoman

The architecture and interior of the kraton are a blend of Sundanese, Javanese, Islamic, Chinese, and Dutch styles with European architecture
