In 2023 I visited Solo again as part of trip to Telomoyo Mountain.

My highlight of this trip is new Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The mosque was originally built in 2021, and is a replica of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The mosque is a grant from the Government of the United Arab Emirates to the Government of Indonesia.

This mosque was then designed to resemble the original with four towering minarets, one main dome, surrounded by 81 small domes, and Middle Eastern building ornaments

What distinguishes this mosque from the original mosque in Abu Dhabi is its smaller size, covering only 2.7 hectares (27,000 m2), or approximately 22.5% of the original mosque’s 12 hectares (120,000 m2)

The basic form still follows the original mosque, which still has strong Moroccan, South Asian, and Middle Eastern architectural styles, but is smaller in size.

Besides its smaller size, another distinguishing feature of this mosque compared to the original is the adaptation of batik motifs to each component of the building, such as the kawung, kembang, and bokor kencono. With its size, the mosque is claimed to be able to accommodate 10,000 worshippers
